We work with children and young people aged 8 to 18. Sessions are adapted to meet each child’s individual needs and stage of development.
These sessions are designed for children and young people with emerging emotional needs, focusing on early intervention support. They are intended to help build emotional awareness, resilience, and coping strategies before difficulties become more complex.
Sessions typically last 45 minutes. Depending on the child or young person’s age and individual needs, parents or carers may be present for part of the session.
We understand that 45 minutes can sometimes feel like a long time, particularly when a child is first getting to know us and the environment. Sessions can therefore be flexible and adapted to help them feel comfortable and at ease.
To book a session, please complete an Expression of Interest form and return it to The Feelings Coach email address. We will then make contact to arrange an initial consultation. Following this, a suitable plan will be agreed, and sessions will be scheduled.
We will always keep parents/carers informed about general themes, progress, and any important updates. Together with your child or young person, we will agree what information can be shared and what they would prefer to keep private. If there are any safeguarding concerns, these will always be shared appropriately in line with safeguarding procedures.
Between sessions, support is provided through agreed organisational channels only. We do not use personal contact details or social media to communicate with children or young people.
Safeguarding is central to our practice. We follow clear safeguarding procedures, maintain professional boundaries at all times, and receive regular supervision and training. Please see my safeguarding policy for more detail.
If a child or young person has engaged in self-harm or is experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, this will always be treated with care and taken seriously. Their safety and wellbeing will be the priority, and appropriate safeguarding procedures will be followed.
Where there are current or significant risks, the child may need to be supported by more appropriate specialist services before engaging in sessions with The Feelings Coach. Where possible, this will be discussed sensitively with parents/carers, and guidance will be given on the most suitable next steps and support available.
Our cancellation policy is designed to ensure fairness and consistency for all families, as well as recognising the time and preparation involved in each session. Full details are outlined in our cancellations policy.
Unfortunately, not at this stage. All sessions are delivered in person in a safe, professional setting. However, this is something we could look into if face-to-face is a barrier to your child accessing support.
This is very common, especially at the beginning. We understand that starting something new can feel overwhelming for some children and young people. We always work at your child’s pace, focusing first on building a trusting, supportive relationship so they feel safe, comfortable, and secure over time.
To help prepare your child, we recommend showing them a photo, the intervention space, and the virtual tour before their first session. This can provide reassurance, familiarity, and a clearer sense of what to expect.
At the beginning, parents/carers may be invited to stay if this helps the child feel more comfortable and supported. The aim is to gently build towards independent 1:1 sessions.
For younger children, parents/carers may also be invited into the final 15 minutes of a session where appropriate, to support understanding, reinforce strategies, and help with continued support at home.
Progress is measured through collaboratively set goals agreed with the child/young person and, where appropriate, their parent/carer. These goals are regularly reviewed and inform each session, with ongoing reflection to support individual needs, wellbeing, and development.
We have experience working collaboratively with schools and other professionals where appropriate to support a child’s wellbeing. However, due to limited capacity, We do not routinely take on direct liaison roles. Instead, We encourage parents/carers to share relevant feedback and updates with schools and other professionals involved in their child’s care, ensuring support remains joined up and consistent.
We will always work sensitively with children and families in these situations. There is no pressure to engage, and I will support gradual relationship-building where appropriate or discuss alternative options if needed. Please see our cancellations policy.
